The Origins of Nanjing University
Nanjing University is in many ways an excellent mirror of the history of Chinese higher education, because it has so many predecessor organizations that became part of it. It's loyalty as the center of the old national regime could and would be questioned at various periods of time. Nanjing was the capital of the Republic of China during the nationalist period. And just as Nanjing itself became not thecenter of the country politically or otherwise, but rather on the periphery politically,. The university also becomes somewhat on the periphery education domain as well.
