The term miscarriage is problematic in the way that it implies something's gone wrong. It seems to re-inscribe the patriarchal idea of pregnancy as kind of incubation, or the pregnant person is kind of carrying the baby or fetus. The other real issue in talking about pregnancy, miscarriage and abortion is obviously how we designate the fetus. And so I think again, you know, I was just so aware of that. But to me, it felt that fetus could be used as a kind of, again, a baseline, upon which other meanings can be built"
