At age 16, Mary Godwin attracted the attention of Percy Bish Shelly. He was married at the time, but he fell in love with her as a woman capable of independent thought. When she was twenty five, her father William Godwin wrote the following: Frankenstein is the most wonderful work to have been written at 20 years of age that I have ever heard of.
