The Complexity of Consciousness
One of the most enigmatic qualities of consciousness is its ability to be unified and fragmented at the same time. Is it possible to explain that process through the function of the brain's neural networks? That is a central concern of our book, the fact that consciousness has that apparently contradictory property of being unitary. And we believe, my colleague and I, Julia Otononi and I, that the approach to this is to have a formal analysis of complex systems - not computer systems.
