The Opportunistic Rhetoric of DeSantis

All of history of America is determined by opportunistic rhetoric around race. There's not a black person who believes that slavery was a necessary evil, he says. The historian David Elthis has argued that it would have been cheaper and more economically productive to have enslaved white poor people in the poorhouses and in the prisons. But what was determined was, even though it was more economically viable, it would destroy the power of whiteness to unify white people.
