The High Priestly Prayer in John's Gospel
The climax of this whole sequence is that Jesus goes to the cross. He enters into kind of a day of atonement offering his blood for the life of the world. And also the cross becomes in John's Gospel a place for elevation and ascension. So I was again struck by how neatly it all fits together. The accumulation of details in this kind of parallel sequence has a persuasive force. It's not a kind of logic that you can prove at any particular point conclusively.
