The Evolution of the Chimpanzee Virus
Only two of the four chimpanzee subspecies are infected with virus that is ancestor of HIV. Virus spread from Cameroon to Kinshasa, where it has started to really spread among people. Then having spread across Africa, they then spread out across the world. This was drifting on for maybe a century, nearly a century, before we realised what had happened.
