The Scepterhead of Marcus Aurelius
The scepterhead potentially of Marcus Aurelius is absolutely stunning especially for its size. It's only when we look at the back that we start to appreciate how this object may have been used before it was buried. So this is very much an object that was meant to be viewed from the front and definitely not the back. The imperial cult was spread by Roman officials across the empire so you find it worshipped not just in Rome but on the fringes of the empire like here in northern Britain.
