Wells' experience with radio had given him a sense of how the speed of radio that you can move very rapidly without having to waste time on setups and so forth is something that he transfers into the film. So it moved like one of his radio dramas, and that's new for Hollywood. But it's also, of course, the beginning of what the period that we now think of as film noir in Hollywood.
