The Artemisian Temple on Delos

Artemis' sanctuary at Delos was associated with two tombs, said to be those of maidens from the land of the Hyperboreans. The Greeks had a habit of assimilating all four gods, under some form of the Olympian pantheon familiar to them. At Ephesus, a goddess was venerated in a particularly distinctive free-hellenic form.
