The Pius II in the 15th century wrote a fairly juicy romance story called The Tale of the Two Lovers. It's widely believed to be autobiographical and he wrote about them quite shamelessly. By the 1590s, 150 years after he had been pope, they did a review of some of his commentaries on church councils. He had written this before he was pope and he was an attendee at the council. This was in the time of the schism of the late Middle Ages. I think they ended up expregating it.
