The Story of Black Oak and the Pine Ridge Reservation
After the Little Big Horn, Black Oak's family left the area and fled to Canada. They eventually ended up in what is known as the Pine Ridge Reservation. In 1881 he became a medicine man like multiple ancestors and relatives. The word Wakan means holy, sacred, or powerful on Lakota altar cloths.
