i think that if you look at a the american landscape, i tend to honestly take the view that part of why they survive is that they still have the highest sense of authority. And say what one wants about the new york times, or about the white house, or about harvard a, these are institutions which still sort of see their role as one of moral authority. Western civilization, as we see it, was not planned. It was the result, by products, of the pursuit of higher aims. To make etiquette real, you've got to go back to the principles that start it in the first place.
