The Importance of Empathy in Inter-Group Conflicts

Author has done work with police officers who were empathic towards their own group, but not to outsiders. Findings suggest that if we're sempathizing so much with our group then we'll be unable to be flexible emotionally. Sometimes the right recommend tion might actually be to tell people behave a little less sympathetically.
