In the operation span task, what happens as we present a series of letters that you see, and your job is to remember those letters. And on those working memory tasks like this ospan task, not really any change in terms of how people perform on it. So we don't need to remember this information forever. We just need to remember it long enough for us to be able to use it.

Dr. Amishi Jha is a professor of psychology at the University of Miami. She serves as the Director of Contemplative Neuroscience for the Mindfulness Research and Practice Initiative, which she co-founded in 2010. She received her Ph.D. from the University of California–Davis and postdoctoral training at the Brain Imaging and Analysis Center at Duke University.
