The History of North Koreans
Kim Il-sung purged the founding members of the Communist Party in South Korea. In 1958 he ordered up an elaborate project to classify all North Koreans by their political reliability. Being a member of the hostile class meant you would never get the benefit of the doubt. Meiran often found her father's passivity maddening. Only later did she understand this was a survival mechanism.
