Land and liberty party split in fall of 18 79. Majority went off to wage terror campaign on behalf of a political revolution. Smaller group around preanof formed black repartition based in saint petersburg. They decided to temporarily leave the country, inviting axelrot to stay behind with their press operation. But when this group departed for their temporary sojourn they would not return to russia for 37 long years.
