In 1996, forensic scientists made a vital connection between attacks by matching DNA in the semen from the attack in Nottingham. They now knew for sure that the attacks were by the same man and they finally started to work together to catch the culprit. Operation Links brought together 60 officers from West Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and the Leicestershire Forces. But of course, Barwell didn't appear on this list as he'd never been caught for a sex offence.
