The History of the Turkic Kaganate

Turkic peoples may have started migrating westwards in the typically fluid manner of many steplultures looking for fertile lands. This could have been simultaneous to the Hunnic migrations causing historians to scrutinise how close the relationship between the Huns and the Turks was. A Turkic chieftain called Bumin rebelled against Raurang overlords and established Turkic independence in the middle of the 6th century. He declared himself kagan and so the first Turkic kaganate was born. Due to the nomadic nature of the steppe cultures it quickly expanded to gain control over vast amounts of steppe lands.
