The Role of Special Pleading in the Church
Special pleading effectively is excusing horrible behavior or in Joseph Smith's case, even incorrect translations. You need to privilege your beliefs while on the flip side, you're more than willing to go out and criticize anyone else who does it because you could see it without those biases. It kind of comes in with the leaders of the church as well, with this whole rules for the, but not for me type thing where they expect the members of the church to be honest.
