Charles was being controlled in many ways by his great uncle, Lord Montbaton. The public image that Mountbaton and Charles wanted to portray was that of Charles the Playboy. He allowed himself to get set up with Lady Diana Spencer, a woman he did not love and barely knew. On the night before his marriage to Diana, he wept for having been forced away from his real love and towards being forced to marry a woman.
