How to Find the Age of a Violin

Figuring out the age of wood requires counting rings, but also looking for patterns in the ricks. Only cross dating different cross matching different ring with serious can be sure that something is tated correctly. And it is very difficult to know where, during the sixteenth century the biry makers were taking the wood. There are many tales, legends, but no document and that would be one field of research which would help allot the deity of violins.
