In 1979, Buckley is asked by Life magazine to essentially write a mea culpa for Edgar Smith. He writes about how things fell off so spectacularly that the man who had been on top of the world is now in prison again. There are some private indications and conversations with people who knew him that there is some remorse,. But then by the early 80s, it's like no more discussion. It wasn't ever a topic of discussion.
