The Origin of Life Hypothesis

In 1871, Charles Darwin suggested that life could have begun in a warm little pond somewhere with all sorts of phosphoric salts and electricity. The proposal really hasn't panned out for one particular reason: too much water is around. And so it was never really a plausible proposal for how to get organic compounds to become more complex,. So our field started to look back into the warm little ponds. We had an entire science of hydrothermal fields. They are like Yellowstone, all those bubbling, regularly blasting off geysers That create thermodynamic disequilibrium as well.
