The Fear of Persecution

There is a very real fear of persecution. Socrates was made to drink poison. Aristotle left town so that he wouldn't be killed. Seneca was ordered to kill himself and he did. There are other examples of people that didn't get killed like Plato or Virgil, I'll argue a little bit later. So you'll see people not saying exactly what they say. But then they'll say something not quite for everybody for the attentive reader to figure out. This is also on page 23 of persecution and the art of writing.
