The Role of the Basal Ganglia in ADHD and OCD

ADHD and OCD are both charitable. They both run in families so having either of those conditions creates a higher likelihood that you'll have a family member with either of these conditions. The genes that are most implicated with ADHD are the dopaminergic genes or genes related to dopamine which is a neurotransmitter that's responsible for reward seeking and motivation. With OCD the genes are more implicated in the serotonergic or serotonin related genes. That's why the medication of choice for people with OCD is an SSRI, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor for ADD.
