The Role of Conferences in Computer Science

The computer science field generally works in conferences in a way that perhaps outside of computer science isn't quite so prevalent. I sometimes joke you can say that computer science needs this because otherwise we are somewhat challenged regarding social interactions. As these calls for proposals go out, teams are being formed. And as the proposal is being written, different people will bring in their thoughts on how to best address and tackle this. This problem when the researchers funded, that's the source for a lot of good collaborations.
