The Importance of Speaking Who You Are
In the movie, a teacher who all these boys love has been fired and he has taught them a Walt Whitman poem that says, Oh, Captain, My Captain. And so in like a final act of defiance as their favorite teacher has been fired, they one by one stand on their desks and say, 'Oh, Captain' There's something about if there are enough of you saying it, you can't be silenced. You won't wish you hadn't said anything. It points back to the things we're saying about community: what a dream needs or what help needs is other people around you affirming it, right? And receiving it.
