50 thousand died during the siege of 18 70. Another 25 thousand were killed in the commune and bloody week that followed. Businesses started complaining hat when they went to reopen, there weren't any workers left. In many ways, paris has still not gotten over it. The third republic remained in place even though royalist members of the national assembly had worked out agreement to restore the monarchy.
