The Importance of Race in the Civil War
Bob Jones University was sued by the IRS for allowing interracial marriage. The case featured two fundamental constitutional commands clashing with each other directly, race and religion. When you have a compelling state interest, you win over religion. That's the standard. So it doesn't mean religion wins every time. It means when there's no compelling stateinterest, religion wins. And that's the biggest state interest in the game.
