How to Prevent Bacterial Infections in Urinary Catheters
Up to one in five hospitalised patients ends up needing a urinary catheter at some point. With that comes considerable risk of infection which prolongs hospital stays and drives up healthcare costs. A team at Nottingham University have discovered a new material that we might be able to use to coat catheters and possibly other medical instruments. It could prevent infection causing bacteria from latching on and causing infections in the first place.
