This talk explores some deep philosophical content, much of which many of us would rather not get into or hope that we can avoid in the development of AI. But clearly the question of how we are going to trust AI is not going to go away and cannot go away. Does this mean that we have to build an AI that is feeling? Maybe not. If it does such a good imitation of feeling that we can't tell the difference, which you may think is hair splitting, but at the moment, large language models are doing a convincing enough impression of how humans converse as to erase that distinction in many cases.
