The Battle of Morristown, New Jersey
During the night, washington led his army down back roads that weren't on any map. When dawn broke on january second, cornwallis found the ridge empty. Washington's whole army was down to just three thousand men by march with expiring terms, desertion and small pox taking their heavy toll. As spring came, recruiters for the continental army did their best, and the total was back up to nine thousand. But we'll talk more about it when we get to the famously hard winter next year at valley forge,. And then a bit more when we talk about the famously but even harder winter in morristown the year after that.
