A diverse range of people expressed sympathy for him, at least understanding of where he was coming from. It didn't really break down along racial lines until a little bit later when it became less clear that he was acting in self defense and started to seem like perhaps he acted out of Racial animus. The tabloids were the beneficiaries of this Bernie Getz story. And they shaped the public perception because these four tufts robbed him at screwdriver point.
