Byron Williams: The Declaration of Independence was co-written by a committee. He says the Committee of Five included Ben Franklin, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. Over 80 edits were made to the declaration before it was presented to Congress in 1776. By removing reference to British people as they wanted to place blame solely at feet of king, Williams says that grievance became central plot point.
