The elaboration likelihood model states when elaboration likelihood is high, people tend to take what's called the central root. When elaboration chance is low, they'll take what they call the peripheralRoot. And in their research, one of the examples that really I think illustrates all this well is told students that there was going to be a comprehensive test at the end of their entire time at the university. They were more motivated by arguments on the central route. The ones that had weak arguments were ineffective.
