When Louis XIV died in 1715, the Dow Finn was his five-year-old great-grandson. With everyone dead from measles and smallpox, Philippe II served as temporary regent and guardian to Louis until he came of age at 13. He's trapped in a Versailles-level shit show of an aristocracy, maneuvering to influence his every move. What sort of teenager can handle that kind of pressure? And he was a sensitive kid too.
