How Much Would It Cost to Make St Edward's Crown Today?
In 1761, George III spent £12,000 on hiring gemstones because he wanted the crown to be full of diamonds. In 1911, Garrods then said for George III, we're going to put original stones in that really make a statement. So perhaps an easier way to work out the value of the crown would be to simply break down how much it would cost to recreate St Edward's Crown today.
