The Mongol Empire Depended on Expansion
In 1274, the Yuan fleet set out with an estimated 15,000 Mongol and Chinese soldiers. Around Nightfall, a typhoon caused the Mongol ship captains to suggest the land force re-embark. By daybreak, only of almost all the ships had set out to sail back to mainland China. The Mongols would attempt another invasion just years later in 1281.
