The Impact of the Currency School on the Bank of England

The Bank Charter Act of 1844 put strict limits on the amount of notes that were allowed to be issued by the Bank of England. This was a great triumph for the currency school, but it contributed to the 1847 financial crisis. The banking school ideas gradually came to dominate Bank of England partly because of the negative effects of the1844 Bank Charter Act.
