Sola was re-elected consul in 85 BC, and decided that Sola needed to be formally relieved of duty. So Sola raised an army and placed men with strong anti-Sella passions in charge. They were to find Sola, relieve him of his command, and combine the two armies. But when the army led by Lucius Valerius Flakus and Gaius Flavius Thimbria arrived and camp beside Sola's army, things went backward. The dissension in the ranks spread, and the remaining troops soured on Flakus. Eventually, his second-in-command Thimbria led a mutiny - but being a staunch Marian partisan
