Jim Crow and the American Vision of Democracy
i think that when it comes to authoritarianism, br, we we tend to have sort of slippery conceptions of the united states as a democratic country. There have always been elements of anti democratic sentiment entwined in the national american story, but sub national authoritarianism. In the jim crow era, even extending through the 19 fifties and sixties, is shows us just how deep these traditions go.
