The Effects of Shrooms on Depression

In a small study, Catherine found that psilocybin calmed an area of the brain linked to fear and sadness. This part of the brain is called the amygdala. Having a hyperactive amygdala is linked to depression. It's not clear why some people still have bad scary trips. But at least in the lab, Catherine is seeing these chilled out amygdalas. And she says all of this might be a clue as to why shrooms could help some people with depression.
