When she was only 14, she built her own telescope out of an old cardboard tube and a simple objective. She went on to study at verze, one of the very few colleges in the us that had astronomy as an undergraduate course. Throughout her career, she studied cosmology and other fields in physics, but her love was really the observation of spiral galaxies.
