There's not a lot that's wasted in this book, as far as I can remember. To build the hope and then crush it is such... Nobody has the courage to do that in any books. And if you tried to make that as a movie in Hollywood, they'd be like, can't you just give it a happy ending? Can he just be happy, at least free in his mind in some way? Yeah. You know, give a little flicker of hope. But not for Georgie, boy. No, that's right. He might have written Burmese days also by him - which could be his first novel. It's quite fun in a horrible way
