The Materialist Vampire Ideology in Blade

Guillermo del Toro obviously loves magic. And I wonder how his influence affects what I would consider the mostly materialist vampire ideology in blade. With a few exceptions, they don't really seem to be supernatural. The vampires are just like people who are universally bad and they have super strength and they drink blood. Yeah, then again, for del Toro, monster has different connotations perhaps than it does for other people.
