A group of farmers went out to hunt for the beast that killed their cows. When they came upon a large shape, it wasn't a wolf but something distinctly human. They all pulled their triggers and fired at its back as it fled in pain. The noise woke up emily's mother Mildred who was worried she'd lost her daughter. Emily had been struck by a bullet while walking alone through the woods. She suffered from lycanthropy which left her with severe injuries.
