A Gentleman in the Parla
The area of the city of Bhagawan would remain occupied for much of the century that followed. The English writer William Somerset Morm, who traveled through Burma and Thailand in 1923, wrote a memoir of his travels entitled A Gentleman in the Parla. In it, he writes about how he was affected by the sight of the ruins of cities like Angkor, Ayutthaya and Bhagawan. It is a somber reminding of the mutability of human things.
