Whales and Whale Clans' Dialect Similarity

Sperm oil clans in the Pacific Ocean can have vastly different ranges. We looked at dialect similarity in terms of non-identity codas, which are just basically codotypes that whales from multiple different clans will use. And we found that as clans became more and more overlapped, their dialect similarity didn't change. This actually matches what we would expect in what has been shown for human symbolic markers.
