I was reading an essay that you wrote for the New Yorker last year about Edward Hopper's exhibition in the Whitney, which I was lucky enough to go and see as well last summer. And the title is the delight ofEdward Hopper's solitude. What makes solitude so delightful in his art? That piece was written under the impetus of immediate experience. It was also the first time I'd felt since the descent of the drab curtain of COVID on New York that New York was really coming back to life.
